From the majestic Carnegie Trees and Neapolitan presepio to spectacular exhibitions including William Henry Fox Talbot and the Promise of Photography and We Are Nature, there’s something for everyone at Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History this holiday season! And while you’re here, the kids can visit Sven the Reindeer or write letters to Santa while the adults cross some items off of their holiday gift lists. Seasonal items and special events at the CMOA Store and Carnegie Museum of Natural History Store are sure to delight!

Museum Store Sunday
You’ve heard of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. This year, consider doing your holiday shopping on the inaugural Museum Store Sunday, spearheaded by the Museum Store Association. Over a dozen museum stores around Pittsburgh (and hundreds across the US) offer special shopping experiences in one-of-a kind stores, showcasing broad assortments of highly curated, unique, mission-specific gifts.

Carnegie Trees Opening Celebration
The Women’s Committee of the Carnegie Museum of Art invites you to the 56th annual Carnegie Trees Opening Celebration: Beloved Children’s Book Characters. Enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in CMOA’s magnificent Hall of Architecture, surrounded by five soaring evergreens decorated to celebrate the characters from favorite books like The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland.

Carnegie Trees and Neopolitan presepio
This year’s theme is Beloved Children’s Books, featuring trees inspired by The Cat in the Hat, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, The Jungle Book, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Every day from 1–3 p.m., CMOA docents are available to speak with visitors of all ages about the presepio and the history of this beloved Pittsburgh tradition.

CMOA has everything you need for holiday cheer—and holiday shopping! Join us for festive fun at the CMOA Store all day long. Check out a selection of unique, locally-designed gifts for everyone on your list. We’re offering free gift wrapping and live music throughout the day. We’ll also have ice skating in our Hall of Sculpture for just $5!
A John Waters Christmas: Holier & Dirtier
We welcome back the legendary writer and director, John Waters (Pink Flamingos, Hairspray, Cry Baby), to the Carnegie Lecture Hall with his critically acclaimed one-man show. Co-presented with The Andy Warhol Museum.
