Third Thursday is back and it’s going to be magnificent!
Be the first to see Ian Cheng’s Emissary Sunsets The Self, an open-ended, constantly evolving digital simulation displayed on a massive, 17-foot LED screen. Sound crazy? It is... crazy rad!
Evolve your view of Pittsburgh’s art universe, or the BOOMiverse, with the help of BOOM Concepts and their partners across the city for an activity fair with extra magic! Make, explore, and meet with local arts organizations and creatives. It’s a who’s who of Penn Avenue and beyond in Oakland for one night only.
About the Exhibition
Emissary Sunsets The Self is the third work in the Ian Cheng’s Emissaries trilogy (2015–2017). Each simulation in the series—set on the same volcanic site separated by thousands of years—explores a pivotal moment in Cheng’s interpretation of cognitive evolution, past and future. His protagonists, or emissaries, are equipped with customized AI, allowing them to shape—and be shaped by—their strange environments as they work to accomplish narrative tasks.
Third Thursdays at CMOA
On the third Thursday of every month, we keep the art galleries open late, turn up the volume, and welcome partners throughout the city to create exciting, one-of-a-kind programs. Explore our exhibitions, enjoy music, indulge in a late-night café menu, and more. Curate your own experience!
