Liner Notes with Lauren Goshinski
Lauren Goshinski: Hello Chosen Fam! Music as an act of community-building is something we see across all genres. Can you tell us more about why "chosen fam" is your name of choice and what this phrase means to you in the events and spaces you run?
Suave Pav: My chosen family has always been a pivotal piece of my life, and any artist has chosen fam in their respective fields. The name refers to the importance of feeling at home even if your actual home isn't what you want it to be. You always have a certain level of control/choice in where you call home. Sometimes it's as simple as having the same taste in music, and I think Bamboo and I and Gianni have always shared that same taste!
Lauren Goshinski: What can we expect to hear on your night at Inside Out?
Suave Pav: We're playing some of our favorite bops across all genres or eras but expect a lot of 2000s gems, SoundCloud era edits, amapiano, house, and hip hop.
Lauren Goshinski: This year’s Inside Out Series is centered around the concept of “+1.” Each crew has been invited to add a special guest artist to help expand the music and connections for artists and audiences alike.
Tell us about your “+1” guest!
Suave Pav: Shout out Gianni for sliding in effortlessly (like he always does) for this one! He's been tearing it up on the West Coast, and I think many people from Pittsburgh respect what he's accomplished in the last few years! G's one of my favorite humans, and his energy is just super positive. The guy is a saint and has a great ear that any music lover can appreciate, no matter what direction he goes.
Lauren Goshinski: Any shoutouts you'd like to make?
Suave Pav: Shout all the ppl who are mad particular about their art, music, and events and who are slightly socially awkward but go out and participate and contribute anyway. I'm partial to the weirdos—this one's for you.
