Architecture Against All Odds: Architect Talk and Discussion

CMOA Theater

FREE, seating is limited

Join CMOA and Carnegie Mellon University's School of Architecture for a talk and discussion with Marialuisa Borja, principal for the architecture firm Al Borde. Based in Quito, Ecuador, Al Borde typically works on projects with low budgets; they attempt to turn a scarcity of resources into an advantage, considering not just money but also skills, knowledge, materials, property, and even friends and acquaintances as assets in the project.

For nearly a year, the firm has been working with the residents of North Braddock, Pennsylvania, to reimagine the neighborhood’s Recycle Park, a public space in need of renovation. The history of the site and documentation of the project and design thinking to date is on view in Building Optimism: Public Space in South America in CMOA’s Heinz Architectural Center.

Reception to follow on CMOA’s Hall of Sculpture balcony, and our Building Optimism exhibition will be open in Heinz Architectural Center until 8:30 pm.
