“The basis of my art working is the life that I’m actually living, rather than what I learned in art school or in galleries.”—Alison Knowles
Artist and poet Knowles (b. 1933) filled our Forum Gallery with large-scale prints, interactive sculptures, and sound objects in her 2016 exhibition. Throughout her career, she has expanded the boundaries of art with her performative work and participatory installations. Ordinary items such as books, beans, shoes, and strings trigger our curiosity as she engages our senses and invites us to share in her intimate way of seeing the world.
