Carnegie Museum of Art Strategic Plan, 2018–2020

Mission: We create experiences that connect people to art, ideas, and one another.

At CMOA, we believe creativity is a defining human characteristic to which everyone should have access. CMOA collects, preserves, and presents artworks from around the world to inspire, sustain, and provoke discussion, and to engage and reflect multiple audiences.

Strategic Plan Core: Artistic Program

At CMOA, we work to ensure that the art is accessible and engaging to our community. We are committed to diversifying the collection through key acquisitions and by presenting an innovative exhibitions program that offers a broad cross section of art from our collection and beyond. The 57th Carnegie International, Teenie Harris Archive, Hillman Photography Initiative, Collecting Experiences (working title) exhibitions and programs, digital initiatives, publishing projects, and ongoing social and education programs are the vehicles through which we will realize and execute our mission and goals.

CMOA will strengthen its collection and leverage how we use associated object data; we will execute and learn from evaluation; improve our infrastructure (physical, technological, and staffing); and prioritize financial sustainability.

CMOA values collaboration with its sister Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, as well as other organizations, community partners, and museums around the world.
