Is It Morning For You Yet?58th Carnegie International

Anh Trần

Anh Trần (b. 1989, Bến Tre; lives in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland) works across painting methods and materials to address the complexity of the fluctuating distance between contemporary painting critical discourses and non-Western or hybrid painting practices, and the challenges for non-Western painters to engage with these discourses. Her practice draws on a painterly language that responds to spontaneous energy and sensations. Trần received a master of fine arts degree with first-class honors from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland, and a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland. She has been included in exhibitions at Galerie Fons Welters, Amsterdam; Artspace Aotearoa, Auckland; Window gallery, Auckland; Demo gallery, Auckland; and RM gallery, Auckland. She was an artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam, and the recipient of the 2016 Henrietta and Lola Anne Tunbridge Scholarship.

Anh Trần’s commission for the 58th Carnegie International is supported as part of the Dutch Culture USA program by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York.
