Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh and The Alliance Française
bring Bastille Day to Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania…Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh and The Alliance Française will host a celebration of the French national holiday, Bastille Day, on Monday, July 14, which will include food, art, and entertainment.
At 6:00 p.m., the evening will begin with aperitifs and a private viewing of Carnegie Museum of Art’s Scaife Galleries—which house works by numerous French artists such as Monet and Renoir—with Louise Lippincott, chief curator and curator of fine arts. Jason Busch, the Alan G. and Jane A. Lehman Curator of Decorative Arts, will share his vision for the future of the decorative arts collection.
Dinner begins at 7:00 p.m. with a strolling buffet dinnerof fine French cuisine, made-to-order crêpes, and wine in the Carnegie Café; a French dessert buffet follows dinner. Musical entertainment by the Steven Vance Trio will play through dinner and feature French music. Parisian-trained mime performer, Mark Thompson, will also entertain guests throughout the evening.
Attire is “chic casual.”
Cost for nonmembers is $110 per person; members can attend at a discounted rate of $100 per person. All proceeds will directly benefit, and be equally divided between, Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh and The Alliance Française. July 14th, the French Fête Nationale commonly known as Bastille Day, commemorates the anniversary of the Fête de la Fédération which was a celebratory feast held one year after the storming of the Bastille. The storming of the Bastille—a prison in Paris storing arms and ammunition—on July 14, 1789 is one of the events that signify the start of the French Revolution.
